Grupo Modelo Announces Mega Investment Plan

This growing market offers access to an expanding consumer base and the opportunity to meet the growing demand for high-quality products and innovative packaging. Italian companies can take advantage of this dynamic to expand their presence and collaborate with local partners to make the most of the opportunities in Mexico.

With an investment of $300 million, Grupo Modelo and Millfoods announced the construction of a corn-based beer production plant. According to government authorities, the project will create more than 1,000 jobs and impact one million people, benefiting 20,000 corn producers in the Bajío region.

The plant, to be inaugurated in 2024 in Salamanca, Guanajuato, aims to become Mexico's most technologically advanced plant for processing corn for brewing grain, an auxiliary ingredient used in the brewing process. "Its dry production cycle minimizes water use, thus accelerating the transition to more sustainable and innovative agribusiness," the federal government reported.

During the announcement of the investment, Raúl Escalante, the group's Vice President of Legal and Corporate Affairs, emphasized the company's commitment to Mexican farmers by replacing imported corn with domestic production from the center of the country for beer production.
