DIMENSIONAL ROCK SEMINAR HELD

With the participation of the Governor of Sonora, Guillermo Padrés; the General Coordinator of Mining Jimena Valverde and the General Director of the Mexican Geological Service, Dr. Rafael Alexandri; the "First Seminar on Dimensionable Rocks" was held in the city of Hermosillo, Sonora.

During the opening ceremony, Rafael Alexandri, in his speech, emphasized that Mexico has an enormous potential of dimensional rock deposits that can be explored, exploited and commercialized both inside and outside our borders.

The Director of the Mexican Geological Service informed that as a result of the intense work carried out by this organism in the exploration of dimension rocks, to date they have detected 675 localities in national territory, of which 460 are marbles, onyx and travertines and 215 are granites. "Up to now, specifically in the state of Sonora, we have identified 40 localities for their promotion as productive units" said Dr. Alexandri.

For her part, the General Coordinator of Mining said, "dimension rocks are also part of mining and it is necessary to look at all the potential there is in their development, they are natural resources that we have not taken care of promoting and developing, and that today we are rescuing" said Jimena Valverde, before mining entrepreneurs, academics and professionals of the earth sciences, emphasizing that in Mexico we have 913 economic units producing limestone, marble and other dimensional rocks, which are in search of capital and buyers for their product, and with an important number of localities with potential for marble, onyx, travertine and granite that represent great opportunities for development.

Jimena Valverde emphasized the support that the federal government is providing for this area of action of Mexican mining, pointing out that a Mexican delegation participated in the Dimension Rock Fair in Xiamen (China) in 2011 and in March 2012, as well as the installation of the first special pavilion to exhibit the offer of dimension rocks at the last International Mining Convention in Acapulco.

"We are convinced that by working hand in hand with the mining companies that produce dimensionable rocks, we will be able to build a solid mining industry for the commercialization of these resources and the profitability of these projects.

They have the support of the General Mining Coordination, especially the Mexican Geological Service and the Mining Development Trust, to increase the production and commercialization of their products." Jimena Valverde said.

The official inauguration of the event corresponded to the Governor of Sonora who in his speech, highlighted to the visitors, the economic growth in the state with an annual average of 7% thanks to the support among other investments, to large mining companies, but primarily to small and medium companies that in Sonora generate more than half of the 80 thousand jobs that were created in the first three years of the current administration.

Guillermo Padrés, before the announcement of the Director of the Mexican Geological Service, about the mining potential in dimension rocks of Sonora's territory, made the commitment to support the installation of a cutting plant, calling on the owners of those 40 properties to approach the Ministry of Economy to study the possible exploitation of their deposits.

"I see a great potential in the dimensionable rock in these 40 localities, which will undoubtedly impact the rural communities and will support those who have the opportunity to exploit the inventory that exists in their property," he said in his message, to immediately after officially inaugurate this important national event.

In the development of the technical conferences, the SGM was represented by the Director and Deputy Director of Mineral Deposits, M.C. Amador Nuñez and Eng. Antonio Sanchez respectively, who highlighted the recent experience of a Mexican mission to China, with the objective of promoting the great potential of Mexico in dimensional rocks.

Paolo Marone, President of the Instituto Internazionale del Marmo of Italy, with images from India, Brazil, Mexico and Italy, gave an overview of the global situation in dimension rocks, highlighting the Italian technology for cutting in quarries, through the use of steel and diamond wire.

Paolo acknowledged Mexico's great mining potential in this area and the intense work carried out by the Mexican Geological Service.

In this first seminar with the topic of dimensionable rocks participated businessmen from the states of Durango, San Luis Potosí, Veracruz, Puebla, as well as mining directors from the states of Sonora, Sinaloa, Oaxaca, Baja California, Veracruz and Zacatecas
