Omnia Packaging, a prominent Canadian sustainable packaging company, has joined forces with Friendlier, a leading reuse company in Canada, to introduce a groundbreaking 16-ounce reusable coffee cup. This collaboration addresses the pressing issue of single-use coffee cup waste in Canada, where approximately 1.5 billion cups are discarded annually. The Friendlier coffee cup allows consumers to enjoy their coffee and return the cup for washing, sanitization, and reuse. When the cup reaches the end of its life, it is recycled into a new coffee cup, creating a fully circular supply chain.

The partnership between Omnia Packaging and Friendlier was facilitated by funding from the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario). Both companies share a commitment to environmental sustainability, driving them to innovate and collaborate on this project. The Honorable Filomena Tassi, Minister Responsible for FedDev Ontario, commended the partnership as a crucial step towards reducing single-use plastics.

Omnia Packaging, a subsidiary of the Sunino Group, boasts over 50 years of expertise in sustainable packaging solutions. Operating a state-of-the-art facility in Guelph, Ontario, the company specializes in producing high-quality, 100% recyclable plastic and paper food packaging.

Friendlier, founded by Jacquie Hutchings and Kayli Dale, is dedicated to sustainability and reducing plastic waste. Their innovative distribution, collection, wash, sanitization, and return system spans across three provinces and educates businesses and students on the benefits of reusable containers.

The partnership between Omnia Packaging and Friendlier represents a significant advancement in the reduction of single-use coffee cups. By combining Omnia's design expertise with Friendlier's reverse logistics solution, the collaboration offers a competitive alternative to traditional coffee cups.
