Assembly plants to announce new facilities in Mexico

Automakers may announce the construction of three plants in Mexico, which will initially assemble a combined 400,000 cars.

"There will be decisions from very important companies in the manufacturing sector, which will be announced in the summer," said Ildefonso Guajardo, Secretary of Economy.

The Japanese newspaper The Nikkei reported that Nissan Motor and Daimler AG decided to produce luxury subcompact cars in Aguascalientes.

Plans call for assembly to begin in 2017, with production of between 100,000 and 150,000 units per year.

Nissan and Daimler will become the first automotive alliance for the production of finished cars.

While BMW and Hyundai Kia Automotive Group are about to announce that they will establish plants in Mexico to produce 150 thousand units per year each.

"We will be seeing world-class brands arriving in the coming months and years, which will refer us to reach a figure of 4 million vehicles manufactured in our country in 2017," said Eduardo Solis, president of the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA).

Mexico produced 1,310,000 light vehicles from January to May, which represents a year-on-year increase of 7.2%, and analysts estimate that by the end of the year, production will be close to 3.1 million units.
