Italy's Webuild Group Secures Major Contract For Ontario Line's "Pape Tunnel And Underground Stations (PTUS)" Section

Webuild Group, in a joint venture with Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas Canada Ltd. (“FCC Canada”), has clinched a contract for the initial phase of the Ontario Line's development in Toronto. Valued at approximately €700M–€1.3 billion (CAD 1-2 billion), the contract focuses on the construction of the "Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations (PTUS)" section. The joint venture will operate under the "Progressive Design–Build" model, an innovative contract approach minimizing execution risks during the startup and construction phases.

Webuild, leading the joint venture with a 50 percent share, will collaborate closely with Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx in designing and constructing the PTUS section. The Ontario Line, stretching 15.6 kilometers with 15 stations and six intermodal hubs, aims to enhance Toronto's transit efficiency, reducing travel times to less than 30 minutes.

The PTUS contract encompasses the design, construction, supply, and operation of three kilometers of twin tunnels, two underground stations, and an interface with Toronto Transit Commission’s Line 2 subway. It is a key element in the broader Ontario Line project, contributing to Webuild's growth strategy in low-risk regions like North America.

Webuild is concurrently involved in other significant transit projects in Canada, including the Connect 6ix consortium's work on signalling, communication, safety systems, and rolling stock supply for the Ontario Line. Additionally, the Group, as part of the Mobilinx consortium, is constructing an 18-kilometer light rail line along Hurontario Street near Toronto.

This marks Webuild's third sustainable mobility project in Canada, highlighting its commitment to advancing transportation infrastructure globally. With a proven track record of over 14,100 kilometers of railways and metros built worldwide, Webuild continues to play a pivotal role in connecting communities, reducing environmental impacts, and enhancing access to services and opportunities. In Italy, the Group is actively contributing to projects like Line 4 of the Milan Metro and Line C of the Rome Metro. #WebuildGroup #OntarioLine #InfrastructureDevelopment #MachinesItalia #EngineeredwithPassion
