Eurocopter plans to invest $550 million dollars in Queretaro

The company's president, Lutz Bertling, said that Eurocopter Mexico's High-Tech Aeronautical Components Production Center will cover 12,000 square meters, where it will manufacture doors for Airbus aircraft, as well as tail booms for its Ecureuil AS 350 helicopter.

The plant, with which Eurocopter celebrates 30 years of operations in Mexico, covers 44,000 square meters in the Aerotech industrial park in the municipality of Colón, Querétaro, and includes a helicopter maintenance workshop with the capacity to inspect six aircraft simultaneously.

Eurocopter opened its first plant in Mexico 30 years ago in Mexico City.

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, who attended the inauguration of the plant, mentioned that this new facility will generate 117 direct jobs and 32 indirect jobs and ratified that his government will support investments for the growth of the aerospace sector in the country.

The Secretary of Economy, Ildefonso Guajardo Villarreal, said that the current administration will promote the increase from 30,000 to 100,000 jobs in the aerospace industry and will seek to position Mexico among the top 10 producing countries in the sector.

According to Guajardo, last year the Mexican aerospace industry exported close to 5.4 billion dollars, with 75% of this production going to the United States and 10% to Canada and France.

In Mexico, according to official data, from 2006 to 2012 there was an increase from 109 to 249 aerospace companies and in the last 10 years the annual exports of this industry increased 20%. Querétaro has an aerospace cluster that brings together 32 companies in this industry.

The Secretary of Economy announced that the government will promote the installation in Queretaro of a National Center for Research and Certification of Composite Materials for the Aeronautical Industry, in order to promote the growth of this sector.
