Mexico dominates in air investment

Manufacturers from all over the world exhibit their latest models at the International Aircraft Business Fair.

Mexico currently ranks first in aeronautical manufacturing investment in the world, which makes it the sector of greatest interest for investment in the country, said researcher Monica Casalet.

Hence the need to continue developing public policies that encourage the growth of clusters in the sector with national suppliers, warned the coordinator of the book "La industria aeropacial. Productive and institutional complexity".

During the presentation of the book, she said that in order to avoid being overtaken by other countries, it is necessary to promote small and medium-sized national companies, since this industry is one of the most expensive.

He informed that between 2006 and 2012 the number of companies in the sector doubled, going from 109 to 249 companies and support entities, located in 18 states of the country, generating more than 31 thousand jobs.

In 2009, he pointed out, Mexico was ranked as the ninth supplier of aeronautical products to the United States, above China, Korea, Australia and Spain, according to figures from the U.S. Department of Commerce.Casalet said that it is one of the most controlled industries internationally, so it is necessary to have international certificates to operate, which are very expensive.

"It is a totally controlled industry due to the high production costs", and "everything that projection implies is a key aspect and we must look for selective policies to increase the development of SMEs and make the relationship between centers and universities more effective".

He indicated that planning will have to be at a national and regional level, since it is one of the industries, together with the digital economy, where the country has the challenge of inserting itself in a reality and reorganizing and modifying the different programs.

To guide public policies arises the need for clusters, which should be formed with small and medium enterprises.
