​Fincantieri Project In Yucatan Presented To The Minister Of Economy Of Mexico
In a meeting held on Wednesday 1 December with the Governor of the Mexican State of Yucatan, Mauricio Vila Dosal, and the Minister of Economy, Tatiana Clouthier, executives of the Italy's Fincantieri presented the project for the construction of the largest shipyard on the American continent in the port of Progreso — located 36 km north of Mérida — as well as the benefits of this investment for the local population.

The Italian company presented the details of the work plan, which once concluded will promote the economic development of the State. The expansion of the activities of the naval mechanical engineering industry will permeate, beyond the borders of the Yucatan, the southeastern region of Mexico and the rest of the country, promoting the creation of specialized labor sources and supply chains.

Fincantieri has announced that it will increase the amount of the investment from the 150 million dollars mentioned in the letter of intent to 220 million dollars. 

The project involves the construction of infrastructure for the repair, transformation, and maintenance of ships through two masonry piers, a 400-meter dry port, a lifting platform for units up to 150 meters in length and about 1,000 meters of piers, as well as cranes, workshops, special equipment, offices, and warehouses
