Nearshoring will develop Mexican metal-mechanic industry

Metal mechanics includes industrial machines and tools for the manufacturing, construction, automotive and mining industries, among others, with metal and iron alloys being the basic input for production.

Metal mechanics transforms the raw material from metals to obtain sheets, wires, plates, in order to obtain spare parts, auto parts for vehicles, radio receivers, nuts, for different sectors, among other components.

Nearshoring and reshoring are trends that seek to bring production closer to the markets in which they are consumed, and reduce dependence on global supply chains. In Mexico, these trends are:

Investment in infrastructure and technology to improve production and adapt to market demands.

Increased demand for local suppliers and services, driving domestic industry growth and job creation.

Strengthened supply chain by reducing exposure to external factors such as political instability.

In Mexico, Nearshoring has encouraged auto parts suppliers to come to the country to take advantage of the rules of origin required by the T-MEC. And it is the metal-mechanic sector that concentrates a large part of the production of auto parts, i.e. every fifth request is directed to the metal-mechanic sector; on the other hand, there is a high potential of the country's sector to meet this demand

The main requirements are transmission parts, harnesses, metal-mechanical stamping, forging, casting, surface finishing, machining and plastic injection. There is also a good demand for aluminum injection, molds, dies and lamination

For the National Chamber of the Transformation Industry (Canacintra) it is important that there is support so that MSMEs can take advantage of the investments that are coming to Mexico and thus become part of the supply chain. According to information from Canacintra, 60% of Mexican MSMEs resort to financing from their suppliers, but the participation of banks is necessary to generate credits that promote financing to improve production.

To respond to the metal-mechanical needs that will be driven by Nearshoring, FABTECH Mexico returns to Mexico City from May 16 to 18 at Centro Citibanamex, which through its four technology pavilions will present cutting-edge solutions for the entire manufacturing process.

Over almost two decades, FABTECH has become the largest metalworking event in Mexico, with more than 500 exhibitors and more than 10,000 professional attendees from Mexico and Latin America on 20,000 square meters of exhibition floor.
