New NOM?s for spare parts to be created

The auto parts industry is working hand in hand with the Ministry of Economy (SE) to create Mexican Official Standards (NOM) to standardize the quality of automotive parts.

"Very few spare parts in Mexico have a NOM, so we are practically starting from scratch," said Oscar Albin, president of the National Auto Parts Industry (INA).

The objective is for the new standards to distinguish between a good quality original product and piracy, so that spare parts that do not meet minimum quality standards cannot be marketed in the country, said the industry leader.

The absence of NOM's in the spare parts market facilitates the commercialization of pirated or used products.

"The previous government did not want standards to be implemented because they were considered non-tariff barriers". The problem is that this full opening gave way to garbage, pirated and used spare parts, said Albin.
