XLAM-CLT 2012: Building the Future of Housing

About the Conference:

An opportunity to focus on issues proposed by TMA technologies relating to the use of timber in construction. The construction system based on the use of cross laminated layers of timber planks (XLAM-CLT) has by now entered the perception of designers as the method offering the most possibilities, both from a technical-structural point of view and from an architectural perspective. The system is perfectly in harmony with the need to design buildings that are "friendlier" towards the environment in every way: from the use of a recycable material and wood, to the possiblity of creating high-performing structures in terms of both thermal and acoustic insulation, and consequently with considerably reduced management costs.f

The Conference Objective:

To provide food for thought, to not only highlight the technical aspects of the product – the task entrusted to professors Ario Ceccotti and Gerhard Schickhofer due to subject – but also the genius, creativity, inspiration that has "masterpiece buildings". In short, the aim is to get to the heart of the production processes to understand the logic that makes the XLAM construction system so unique.

XLAM is the future of timber constructions! A clear-cut opportunity to offer an effective and efficient alternative; a set stage to respond in a manner that is consistent with the need to find new tools, new models, new structures to improve our way of life.

About the Organizers

This conference is organised by TMA (Timber Machinery Association) in collaboration with ACIMALL (Italian Woodworking Machinery and Tool Manufacturers Association). TMA is a strategic alliance of complementary companies in the field of woodworking technology and machinery production, created to provide a global response to demands for turnkey solutions in the construction industry. TMA's objective is to make the most of wood as a construction resource by proposing innovative technological ideas and processes. To this end, TMA has initiated a process of organization of the know-how, integration of the functions, and synergetic review of the business strategies of the individual partner companies, to enable the allied firms to meet market expectations with cutting-edge methodologies. TMA invests in training by organizing targeted educational events such as the international conference held in conjunction with Xylexpo 2012.
