ASSOCOMAPLAST Takes the Lead in Producing PLA Using Alternative Energies for Reactive Extrusion

In December 2012, Italy's trade association, ASSOCOMAPLAST started to take part in the InnoREX Project along with the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology ICT, Pfinztal (Germany), a project which is funded by the European FP7 Program. Along with ASSOCOMAPLAST, the project consortium consists of twelve partners, including seven enterprises, two research centers and two universities.

With the help of alternative energies such as ultrasound, laser light or microwave energy, dynamic control of the reaction and the resulting molecular structure of the polymer within a commercial co-rotating twin screw extruder will be achieved. An in-line cleaning device will purify the polymer by removing any traces of the remaining catalyst and monomer residues, thus counting for an excellent product quality.

Now, nearly 20 exciting projects months later you have the chance to meet part of the consortium first hand to be informed about the latest project results during the FAKUMA 2014 fair in Friedrichshafen, Germany, October 14-18, 2014.

The following consortium members will attend the FAKUMA fair: The booth of the coordinator Fraunhofer ICT is located in hall B2, booth 2104 where you will find a broad range of technologies displayed all around polymer engineering with this year’s focus on injection moulding, polymer foams and compounding & extrusion.

During the show from Thursday until Saturday, one will also have the chance to meet the InnoREX coordinator Björn Bergmann. Company SCC will be present on the Fakuma show (Fraunhofer booth) for presenting the Ludovic software, used for supporting the InnoREX project.

MACPLAS, the Italian plastics magazine which is ASSOCOMAPLAST's house organ, will be in attendance at FAKUMA 2014 with its press international stand (placed at the foyer of the trade show) including copies of MACPLAS INTERNATIONAL (in English) which contains an article on the InnoREX project.

Company Gneuss you may visit in hall A6, booth 6501. Over the past few years, the Multi Rotation System extruder has established itself as one of the key technologies for processing PET reclaim without pre-drying. Thanks a patented combination of a single screw extruder with a multiple screw section, the extruder is particularly rugged, as well as easy to operate and maintain.
