During a roundtable discussion organized on 20 March 2013 at the European Parliament in Brussels, the European coalition of machinery industry associations, represented by CECE, CECIMO, CEMA, FEM and EUROMAP, called on the European Parliament to fully support and further strengthen the Commission proposal for a new Regulation on Market Surveillance. During the discussions, there was widespread agreement that the legislative package presents a unique opportunity to finally achieve a level playing field in the Single Market and is a landmark initiative to support the EU's re-industrialization objective.

During the fourth quarter of 2012, Machines Italia together with IndustryWeek magazine conducted its survey on the usage of automation in the manufacturing sector. This Survey had as its objectives the following:

• Examine the use of automation and robotics among manufacturers;
• Investigate the use of and perception of Italian machines;
• Determine future purchasing plans and the important factors and players in the decision-making process.

During a roundtable discussion organized on 20 March 2013 at the European Parliament in Brussels, the European coalition of machinery industry associations, represented by CECE, CECIMO, CEMA, FEM and EUROMAP, called on the European Parliament to fully support and further strengthen the Commission proposal for a new Regulation on Market Surveillance. During the discussions, there was widespread agreement that the legislative package presents a unique opportunity to finally achieve a level playing field in the Single Market and is a landmark initiative to support the EU's re-industrialization objective.

Italians serve as Editorial Board Members for the 26th Annual University of Bath and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) International Symposium on Fluid Power & Motion Control (FPMC 2013) October 6 – 9, 2013. Italian institutions such as the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia are sending professors Massimo Milani, part of the Department of Science and Methods for Engineering (also Chairman of Fluid Power Net International [FPNI]) and Roberto Paoluzzi. Italian organization IMAMOTER, a research institute of the Italian National Research Council (CNR) will also be on board as a part of the vanguard of associates serving as Editorial Board Members for the event.

Milan, May 13th 2013 – An impressive 18,000 visitors attended Grafitalia and Converflex, events dedicated to printing, graphics and converting May 7-11, 2013 at Fiera Milano, Rho, Milan, Italy. International attendees included delegations of industry players from nine different countries selected by the 'buyers programme' run in cooperation with the Italian Trade Commission (which oversees the Machines Italia project) and the country's Ministry of Economic Development.

Surfaces 2013 taking place January 28-31, 2013 in Las Vegas, Nevada, is the annual floor covering event, which puts thousands of retailers, distributors, installers, designers and home builders face-to-face for the industry leading networking, educating, and product sourcing trade show. This year Surfaces hosts a historic event, as International Certified Floorcovering Installers Association (CFI) puts together a CFI Certification team to conduct an international Carpet Certification training on the showroom floor. Italy's RONCHI Mario, S.p.A has for its US subsidiary, RONCHI America, LLC., purchased a 10,000 square foot building in Hiram and expects to employ ten associates within the first twelve months, increasing to 35 as additional manufacturing capabilities are introduced to the facility in Paulding County, Georgia.

Orders of Italian textile machinery are on the rise for both the domestic and foreign markets. ACIMIT's President Sandro Salmoiraghi stated "What's needed now is to boost investments in capital goods and work together in foreign markets."

Based on an industry study conducted by ACIMIT, the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers, during the fourth quarter of 2012, the orders index for textile machinery rose by 22% compared to the previous quarter, for an absolute value of 130.4 points. Even more significant was the increase with respect to the same period the previous year (+46%).

Italy's premier trade show, Xylexpo, featuring the latest in woodworking machinery and technologies has confirmed its editions for 2014 and 2016 with the signing of the recent agreement between Italy's national association for woodworking machinery manufacturers' associaton, ACIMALL's CEPRA Spa and Fiera Milano SpA.

Continuing to expand its North American presence, Italy's Biesse recently announced it had signed a lease for its new West Coast Showroom, strategically located in Anaheim California. This new facility will be devoted to a state of the art showroom fully equipped with Biesse machinery powered up for demonstrations and also the West Coast location for in-house events like Biesse’s popular One2One educational series.
